LIVE THE DREAM

live the dream

Amy's Place Sumatra

The best thing about this area is the complex coastline.

You’re virtually guaranteed a wave, no matter what the wind or swell direction dishes out.

The waves typically range from 2-8 feet. Bigger swells coincide with trade winds from June to September (peak season), and smaller swells with lighter winds during March to May, and October and November (shoulder season).

Most of the waves fall into the intermediate to advanced category.

Beach breaks (Mandiri and La'ai): 15 minutes in either direction. They're both punchy, fast, and hollow. Lots of bang for your buck at any size.

The most well known wave in South Sumatra is Ujung Bocor (often simply called The Point), 30 minutes south of Amy’s Place, a left-hander where you’ll score the longest waves of your trip. Rides of 200+ meters/yards are common.Another 10 minutes south of The Point is Way Jambu, also known as Sumatran Pipe, a barrel machine that's as heavy as it sounds.

An hour’s drive north will bring you to Jenny’s Right, Honey Smacks (AKA A-Bomb), and Jimmy’s Right and Left (in that order), not to mention all the waves in between. Jenny's is at her best when the winds are technically unfavorable making it an amazing option to have, while the rest of the of this group fall into a "the bigger the better" category.

On smaller swells, a short boat ride over to Banana Island will provide you with waves and that feeling of taking the road less traveled.Southern Sumatra is the one-stop shop of surfing. Show up with your sense of adventure and you'll be rewarded!

Waves & SEASONS

There's waves year round, that follow a typical pattern (this should not be misconstrued as a guarantee)

March - May is shoulder season

June - September is peak season

October - November is shoulder season

December - February is low season

This is a list of waves within 3km / 2 miles of your room

The Slab Out Front

This is a beast, best suited for hellmen and hellwomen, who enjoy flirting with danger.

Leftovers

A fast, fun left-hander good for the boog and the board.

The Peak

A perfectly backdoorable right-hand barrel, along side a thick lipped left.

Krui Bowls

Bowly, barreling left.

Krui Left

Arguably the star of the show in the immediate Krui area. It’s super consistent, with mechanical barrels and a long, playful wall. If you’re not smiling after this wave, you can’t be helped.

Krui Right

A racy and playful wave that keeps things interesting.

The best thing about this area? The coastline has more bends than a pretzel doing yoga. No matter what the ocean throws at you - wind, swell, or the occasional confused seagull - you’re pretty much guaranteed a surf. Waves range from 2 feet of fun and mellow, to 8 feet of “hold my beer, watch this”. Bigger swells and trade winds typically coincide with peak season, while the smaller and medium swells, with lighter winds show up for shoulder seasons. Low season still delivers at the beach breaks and the waves that like west wind. Most of the waves are for the intermediate to advanced crew, so bring your A- game, or at least your B+ game. Southern Sumatra is the one-stop shop of surfing. Show up with your sense of adventure and you'll be rewarded!

Beach breaks (Mandiri and La'ai): 15 minutes in either direction. They're both punchy, fast, and hollow. They offer more bang for your buck than those sketchy fireworks you bought at the local Krui market .

The most well known wave in South Sumatra is Ujung Bocor (often simply called The Point), 30 minutes south of Amy’s Place, a left-hander where you’ll score the longest waves of your trip. Rides of 200+ meters/yards are common. You’ll need to stretch after this one.

Another 10 minutes south of The Point is Way Jambu, also known as Sumatran Pipe, a barrel machine that's as heavy as it sounds. Bring your beast mode for this one.

An hour’s drive north will bring you to (in this order) :

Jenny’s Right is at her best in the west wind, and picks up a lot of swell, making it an amazing low-season option to have.

Honey Smacks is a left hander, that’s an absolute barrel machine. The bigger the better.

Jimmy’s Right and Left - You like a big air drop into a barrel, with an exit like a champagne cork? This is you. Also in the “bigger the better” category.

Not to mention all the waves in between... sshhhhh

On smaller swells, a short boat ride over to Banana Island will provide you with waves and that feeling of taking the road less traveled.
